FTX Road Safety Interactive Training Session

On Wednesday 26 November, as part of our Social Value Commitment. FTX Logistics conducted an interactive Road Safety presentation, to the children of Bathford Church School in Bath.

The personnel involved were Sarah Judkins, Joe Rose, Lee Cowan, and Mick Donnelly. The theme for the training session was Blind spots around HGV vehicles and Be Safe be Seen. To that end a HET was despatched with Lee and Mick, to help with delivering the message.

The children had been presented a Road Safety presentation, prior to the practical lesson, with us. Excited is an understatement, of how to describe the children, once they had seen the HET arrive with Lee and Mick.

The HET was set up in the playground and a plan of action, was rehearsed with Sarah, Joe, Lee, and Mick.

The children were then rotated throughout the day and the following elements were covered:

-Introduction to the team.

-Introduction to the HET, highlighting areas of danger and Blind Spots. Asking them where they think Blind Spots are.

-Demonstration of Blind Spots, placing the children, in different areas of the HET.

-Getting the children up in the HET and have children on the ground to demonstrate Be Safe be Seen, whilst incorporating Blind Spots from a driver’s perspective.

Lastly the children demonstrated their Road Safety knowledge crossing our zebra crossing.

An extremely rewarding day and enjoyable, however the whole team were absolutely shattered!

Top three questions from the children:

1. Were you in World War 1.

2. What does PSI stand for. (They read the notice on the HET driver’s door!)

3. Not from the children, but Lee Cowan asked them to ‘Dress to the right/rear’ This is now adopted by the school.
